The SHAHAR project was designed to increase the income and improve the living conditions and environment of poor urban communities in several cities in Bangladesh. This panel survey was designed as an evaluation of those interventions in Dinajpur. The baseline survey interviewed 614 households in July and August 2002, collecting information on the household's demographic and socioeconomic characteristics, expenditures, nutrition and diet habits, health, and anthropometric measurements of women and children under 5. A community questionnaire was also used to collect information on the characteristics and living conditions of the urban communities. The second round took place during March 2003 and the same households and individuals were interviewd. The community questionnaire was omitted.

This third round of the survey was conducted in August through September 2003. The same population of households and individuals were interviewed and the community questionnaire was reintroduced.
