The China WHS focuses on the health system and population health. It covers household demographics, health care services and expenditures, ambulatory services, health insurance coverage, and individual health status. The China WHS 2002 was also used to establish a baseline cohort for the WHO Study on Global AGEing and Adult Health (SAGE), and is alternately known as SAGE Wave 0.
