The overall objective of the survey was to evaluate the socioeconomic effects of structural adjustment policies implemented by the government. The sampling frame for the 1993 survey is based on that of the 1991 survey. In 1991, a three-stage stratified household random sample method was used. The sampling unit for each stage was census supervisory areas (CSAs) delineated for the 1990 census, standard enumeration areas (SEAs) and households. The total sampling frame consisted of 4,144 CSAs and 12,999 SEAs. Approximately 10,000 households were interviewed in total during the 1993 survey. Unlike the 1991 Priority Survey, the 1993 survey was conducted alongside a SDA community survey.
