Summary

The LCMS series of surveys in Zambia were originally based on the Priority Surveys of 1991 and 1993. While the Priority Surveys were aimed at evaluating structural adjustment policies, the LCMS series focused on providing indicators of living conditions and poverty.

The 2006 LCMS V was the fifth in the series. A two-stage stratified cluster sample design was used. A total of 1,000 standard enumeration areas (SEAs) were selected and they included a total of 20,000 households. Out of the 1,000 SEAs, 988 were enumerated, representing a 98.8% coverage at the national level. The total household sample had a response rate of 97.8%.

The poverty estimates are not comparable across all surveys in this series.
