Summary

The 1999 Samoa Demographic and Health survey was conducted as a follow up to the 1993 Vital Statistics Sample Survey. The purpose of this survey was to gather data in order to produce estimates in order to evaluate and determine programs. This survey also sought to investigate family planning practices and reproductive health.

The data were collected through in-home interviews of every member of each household in the sample. The survey took place within all districts and villages in Samoa. The interview contained questions about household demographics, socioeconomics, and reproductive practices of persons aged 15-49 years.

The sample size was 28,638 individuals. Of these, 14,980 were males and 13,748 were females.
