Summary

Censuses provide population numbers, household or family size and composition, and information on sex and age distribution. They often include other demographic, economic and health-related topics as well. From 2004 to 2008 France conducted a rolling census in which different parts of the country were enumerated in January and February of each year. The 2006 France de jure census collected data through face-to-face interviews and self-enumeration on housing, household demographics, employment, education, and migration. The census was conducted from January 19 to February 25. A differentially weighted sample of approximately 33% of private dwellings and individuals in group quarters from the census (19,973,287 individuals) is available through IPUMS International at the University of Minnesota. Dwellings and vacant units are not identified in the sample. Refer to the IPUMS website for guidelines on citing database versions.
