Summary

The Fertility and Family Surveys (FFS) were conducted in 23 United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) Region countries from 1989 to 1999. The template survey includes 10 core and four optional modules. Topics include household characteristics, partnerships, fertility, and use of contraception. Each country developed a unique questionnaire derived from the standardized template. Sampling and data collection varied across the participating countries. In Estonia, the FFS was nationally representative, and the target population was women and men ages 20-69 years. A total of 5,021 women and 2,511 men were interviewed. Interviews with females were completed in 1994, and data collection for males was completed in 1998. The report focuses on the data collected from female participants.
