Summary

The sample for the National Survey of Women, Childhood and Adolescence (EMNA) was used to provide estimates for a large number of indicators on the conditions of women, children and adolescence at the national level, by urban and rural area, as well as the seven provinces of the country: San José, Alajuela, Cartago, Heredia, Guanacaste, Puntarenas and Limón. Four questionnaires were used in the survey: 1) a household questionnaire to collect basic demographic information about all the people who are de jure household members; 2) a questionnaire for individual women applied in each home to all women 15-49 years of age; 3) a questionnaire for children under 5 years old, administered to mothers (or caregivers) of all minor children 5 years living in the home; and 4) a questionnaire for children from 5 to 17 years of age, answered by the mother (or caregiver).
