Summary 

The Global Adult Tobacco Survey (GATS) is a household survey that collects data on noninstitutionalized men and women aged 15 years and older using a standardized methodology for constructing the sample frame, selecting households, and processing data.

The GATS is designed to produce national and subnational estimates on tobacco use. The Malaysia GATS interviewed 4,250 individuals on tobacco use, cessation, second-hand smoke, tobacco expenditures, and knowledge, attitudes, and perceptions towards tobacco. The survey also covered basic sociodemographic characteristics.
