This folder contains analysis code and data files to replicate the
estimation of Iraqi war deaths from the paper "Mortality in Iraq
Associated with the 2003-2011 War and Occupation: Findings from a
National Cluster Sample Survey by the University Collaborative Iraq
Mortality Study" published by Hagopian et al PLOS Medicine in Oct
2013.

Description
-----------

replicate_household_module_analysis.ipynb --- This IPython Notebook
file contains the necessary code to replicate the analysis of the
household module of the survey, which found that during the U.S.-led
invasion and occupation of Iraq from 2003 to 2011, for every three
people killed by violence, two died as a result of the collapse of the
infrustructure that supports health care, clean water, nutrition, and
transportation.

replicate_sibling_module_analysis.ipynb --- This IPython Notebook file
contains the necessary code to replicate the analysis of the sibling
module of the survey, which found that 187,000 adults aged 15-60 died
due to the war, of which 132,000 deaths were caused directly by
war-related violence.


data/ --- This folder contains comma-separated-value (csv) files
necessary for the analysis replication.

  hh_deaths.csv --- this csv file contains the following columns:

    sex              - sex of decedent
    mod              - month of death
    yod              - year of death
    cod              - cause of death
    death_cert       - did respondant have a death certificate

    distance         - distance from household of injury
