Summary

This interview study, co-authored by Carl Riskin, Zhao Renwei, and Li Shi, attempts to measure and estimate the income distribution in rural and urban areas of the People's Republic of China in 1995. The population samples were selected from larger samples (approximately 65,000 rural households and 35,000 urban households) drawn by the State Statistical Bureau, and the data were collected for the analysis of individuals and households in both urban and rural areas. An earlier study was conducted in 1989 and a later one in 2002.
