These tables present expenditure information for state and municipal governments. State information is presented individually and by large geographic regions. Federal spending information is not included in this publication. Spending is broadly broken out in the following areas of function: general public services, national defense, public safety, economic development, environmental protection, housing and urban development, health, education, cultural services and sports, and social protection. Health spending is divided into four areas: administration and support, studies and research, inpatient and outpatient services, and public health services. Values are presented in US dollars.
