Sri Lanka Demographic and Health Survey 2000
General Info
The 2000 Sri Lanka DHS is not part of the DHS series funded by USAID, but was based on the DHS core questionnaire. This survey was conducted Sri Lanka's Department of Census and Statistics (DCS). The survey covers various topics related to fertility, family planning, and reproductive health.
The sample was a multistage stratified probability samplethat excluded the Northern and Eastern provinces. A total of 8,169 households were survey, which included 6,601 women.
The first comprehensive survey on family planning and fertility was done in 1975 by the DCS. Similar surveys were also conducted in 1982, 1985, 1987, and 1993 prior to this survey. The same sample design was used in this survey and the 1987 and 1993 surveys in order to make them comparable.
