Summary
The 1993 Sri Lanka DHS is not part of the DHS series funded in large part by USAID, but was based on the DHS core questionnaire. This survey was conducted by the Sri Lanka Department of Census and Statistics (DCS). The survey covered socioeconomic backgrounds, fertility, contraception, child health, marriage, and child anthropometry.
The sample was a multistage stratified probability sample that excluded the Northern and Eastern provinces. A total of 9,230 households were included in the sample, which included 7,078 ever-married women ages 15-49.
The first comprehensive survey on family planning and fertility in Sri Lanka was carried out in 1975 by the DCS. Similar surveys were also conducted in 1982, 1985, and 1987.
