Fieldwork for this portion was completed in May 1997, and two questionnaires were used, a household and an individual women's questionnaire. The second stage used a subsample of the first and included 5,686 households, 5,096 ever-married women ages 15-49, and 5,240 children under 5. Topics included fertility preferences and contraceptive use, knowledge of STDs, breastfeeding and other food given to children, childhood illness and accidents, immunization, and demographic characteristics.
