Summary

The Panel Study of Income Dynamics (PSID), is a nationally representative longitudinal household survey of families living in the United States. Begun in 1968, the survey was conducted annually until 1997. After 1997, the PSID main interview was conducted biennially, and supplemental studies on disability and use of time, child development, transition into adulthood, and others were instituted. Topics covered in the PSID main interview typically include income, housing, family composition, family history, marriage, expenditures, employment, and education. Questions on health status are asked in increasing detail starting in 1997.
