Summary 

The National Sample Survey (NSS) is a socioeconomic survey conducted in annual rounds with a cycle of rotating topics. The 64th Round (July 2007 to June 2008) included surveys of household consumer expenditure, employment and unemployment, and participation and expenditures on education.

Samples were as follows: 31,673 rural and 18,624 urban households for the consumer expenditure survey, 79,091 rural and 46,487 urban households for the employment survey, and 63,318 rural and 37,263 urban households for the education survey. The surveys were representative at the national and state levels, excluding select areas due to geographic remoteness.

The employment survey included industry and occupation codes and the education level of respondents.
