Summary
Censuses provide population numbers, household or family size and composition, and information on sex and age distribution. They often include other demographic, economic, and health-related topics as well. The Lao People's Democratic Republic Census of Population and Housing of 2005 included enumerator-administered interview questions on maternal deaths and disability. It was the third census conducted in the country by the National Statistical Center, and was supported by the Swedish International Development Agency. As of the enumeration date on March 1, 2005, the total population of Lao was 5.62 million, with a growth rate of 2.1 percent during the ten year intercensal period.
