Summary 

The prospectus provides detailed recommendations on eliminating malaria. Chapter Five contains an overview of the current burden of the disease, malaria transmission, and the available interventions that can be used in an elimination program. Chapter Six analyzes successful elimination efforts and reviews the shrinking of the malaria map since 1900.

Report tabulations provide several demographic and economic indicators for the 39 elimination countries such as life expectancy, GNI, and health expenditures per capita. Table 6.1 highlights the number of malaria free countries by WHO region in 1900, 1949, 1978, and 2009.
