Summary
The Disease Surveillance Points (DSP) 1999 contains mortality and morbidity data for China. The data are broken down by age, sex, and cause of death (with ICD-9 codes), and tabulations are also divided into urban and rural categories. Surveillance occured at 145 voluntary sites in urban and rural areas. In 1999, the DSP covered a population of 8,680,426 people and 45,738 deaths were reported. The adjusted death rate was 679.53 per 100,000 people. The two most common causes of death were cardiovascular disease and cancer, which replaced COPD as the second leading cause of death.
