Summary
The Disease Surveillance Points (DSP) 1994 contains mortality and morbidity data for China. The data are broken down by age, sex, and cause of death (with ICD-9 codes), and tabulations are also divided into urban and rural categories. Surveillance occured at 145 voluntary sites in urban and rural areas, and 134 of the sites provided reliable data. In 1994, the DSP covered a population of 9,987,196 people and 50,554 deaths were reported. The adjusted death rate was 574.03 per 100,000 people. The two leading causes of death were stroke and COPD.
