Summary 

The Sample Survey on Population Changes provides estimates for birth rates, death rates, and growth rates in 2001. The survey targeted 1.22 million people in China. Household questionnaires gathered information on employment, marital status, births, deaths, household size, and people who have left the household. The survey data suggests a total population of 1,276,270,000 (at the end of 2001).
