General Info
The NHANES Epidemiologic Followup Study (NHANES EFS) was a national longitudinal survey designed to investigate the relationships between clinical, nutritional, and behavioral factors assessed in the 1971-1975 National Health and Nutritional Examination Survey (NHANES I). The 1982-1984 NHANES EFS was the first of four waves in the survey, tracking morbidity, mortality, and hospital utilization, as well as changes in risk factors, functional limitation, and institutionalization. The cohort included all persons 25-74 years of age who completed a medical examination during the 1971-1975 NHANES (14,407 sample persons).
