Censuses provide population numbers, household or family size and composition, and information on sex and age distribution. They often include other demographic, economic and health-related topics as well. The 2000 Mexico de jure census collected data through direct enumeration on the subjects of housing, household demographics, employment for those 12 and older, education, migration, disability, health care use and types of health insurance, and fertility for women 12 and older. The majority of the population completed a short form questionnaire, and a sample completed the long form. The census day was February 14, 2000, and fieldwork was conducted February 7-18.

A 10.6% differentially weighted sample of enumeration areas from the census (10,099,182 individuals) is available through IPUMS International at the University of Minnesota. Group quarters are not available in the sample and vacant units are not identified. The microdata is based on the sample that answered the long form questionnaire.
