Summary 

The National Health Interview Survey (NHIS) is a primary source of information on the health of the population of the United States. The NHIS is a cross-sectional household interview survey that is fielded continuously throughout the year. The interviewed sample for the 2006 NHIS consisted of 29,204 households, yielding 75,716 persons in 29,868 families.

The 2006 NHIS covered a wide variety of topics, such as family composition, socio-demographic characteristics, injuries, health care access and utilization, health insurance, income and assets, health conditions, health behaviors, physical activity. The survey included supplement sections on arthritis, diabetes, and stroke.
