Summary

In the United States, state laws require the reporting of fetal deaths, and federal law mandates national collection and publication of fetal death data. Fetal death data sets from the National Vital Statistics System (NVSS) are published annually. Information is abstracted from the Report of Fetal Death Forms received by the National Center for Health Statistics. The majority of fetal death tables published include only those fetal deaths with stated or presumed gestation of 20 weeks or more.
