The data presented in this report are drawn from the 2016 Homicide Survey, which collects police-reported information on the characteristics of all homicide incidents in the country. Since 1974, the survey was expanded to collect not only first and second degree murder incidents but also manslaughter and infanticide incidents as well.

The data tables included in this report provide the number and rate of homicides for each province and territory, and for the country as a whole.
