Prior to 1989 the national Survey of Household Income and Wealth (SHIW) was a cross sectional survey. After 1989 the survey included a panel portion. For the survey data was collected on household employment, income, assets, and finances. Although this survey was conducted in 1988, the questions pertained to household activities and conditions in 1987.
