Summary
The Punjab Opioid Dependence Survey conducted in 2015 covered 10 districts across the state. Data were collected using a respondent driven sampling (RDS) methodology in addition to an online survey targeted at organizations and individuals involved in addiction treatment. Using RDS, 3,620 opioid dependent individuals were surveyed on illicit drug use, reason for starting and continuing drug use, related adverse consequences from drug use, and medical treatment received. RDS was also used in conjunction with a multiplier technique to estimate the opioid dependent population size in Punjab.
