Argentina Household Income and Expenditure Survey 1985-1986
General Info
The survey was carried out in the city of Buenos Aires and the surrounding urban areas, known as Greater Buenos Aires. The sample was 6,910 dwellings, drawn from the primary sampling units of the Permanent Household Survey. The observation unit was the household, and institutionalized populations were excluded. Data were gathered through a questionnaire answered by the head of the household, and diaries that were kept for a week by the head of the household to record daily household expenditures and by family members over the age of 14 to record individual expenditures. Longer reference periods were used to gather information on large, or infrequent purchases, while shorter reference periods were used for frequent purchases. Expenditure categories included food and drink, clothing and footwear, housing and utilities, furnishings, health care and medications, transport and communications, recreation, education, and other.
