Summary
The Rapid Assessment of Avoidable Blindness (RAAB) is a rapid survey methodology developed at the International Centre for Eye Health (ICEH). It is a population based survey of visual impairment and eye care services among people aged 50 years and over.
The Bangladesh - Satkhira District Rapid Assessment of Avoidable Blindness 2005 covered the districts of Satkhira in the state of Khulna. Data were collected through household interviews and visual examinations. Subjects with vision-impairing cataract were questioned on barriers keeping them from pursuing cataract surgery, and subjects that had undergone cataract surgery were asked about their operations. A total of 5,295 subjects were successfully interviewed and examined.
