Summary

The Rapid Assessment of Avoidable Blindness (RAAB) is a rapid survey methodology developed at the International Centre for Eye Health (ICEH). It is a population based survey of visual impairment and eye care services among people aged 50 years and over.

The Bangladesh - Brahmanbaria and Satkhira Districts Rapid Assessment of Avoidable Blindness 2012 covered the districts of Satkhira and Brahmanbaria in the states of Khulna and Chittagong respectively. Data were collected through household interviews and visual examinations. Subjects with vision-impairing cataract were questioned on barriers keeping them from pursuing cataract surgery, and subjects that had undergone cataract surgery were asked about their operations. 2,485 subjects in Satkhira and 2,493 in Brahmanbaria were successfully interviewed and examined.
