Prepared by the National AIDS Control Programme (NACP), this publication reports on the HIV/AIDS/STI situation in Tanzania for years 1996-2008. Data in the report were provided by various organizations including the National Blood Transfusions Services (NBTS), a centralized organization that coordinates blood transfusions including the HIV screening of potential blood donors. This report provides data of replacement donors for all regions for years 1996-2007, and data from voluntary donors for 2006-2008. Demographic information and HIV tests results data were collected from replacement donors through a form provided by NACP to participating health facilities. For voluntary donors, data was collected on the donation sites using a blood donation register book. The report includes tables on the distribution, trends, and prevalence of AIDS, HIV, and other STIs aggregated by region, sex and age.
