The USDA National Nutrient Database for Standard Reference (SR) is the major source of food composition data in the United States, providing the foundation for most other food composition databases in both the public and the private sector. New versions of the database are released as information is updated. Version 27 contains data on 8,618 food items and up to 150 food components. This version was issued in August 2014 and revised in May 2015. It was superseded by Version 28 in September 2015.
