This first in-depth fertility survey conducted in 1985 (the second was in 1987) used a community, a household and a women's questionnaire in Hebei, Shaanxi and Shanghai.  The women surveyed were married and of childbearing age. Topics included public facilities, transportation, education, health care facilities, family planning services, income, durable goods, pregnancy, child health care, knowledge and use of contraception, contraceptive history, and fertility.
