Summary

The European Crohn's and Colitis Organization's (ECCO) Epidemiology Committee Study, or EpiCom, is a prospective population-based inception cohort study of individuals receiving a diagnosis of Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis, or inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) within specifically defined catchment areas served by member collection sites. Crohn's and ulcerative colitis diagnoses are based on the Copenhagen Diagnostic Criteria, while cases that did not fully meet the criteria but necessitated treatment were included as unclassified IBD. The total members of the 2010 EpiCom cohort number 1,682 and largely include patients at least 15 years of age, though pediatric sites include patients aged less than 15 years.
