Summary
United Nation member states adopting the 2001 Declaration of Commitment on HIV/AIDS (as well as the 2011 Declaration, which contains updated goals) commit themselves to submitting progress reports to the UNAIDS Secretariat every two years that detail their response to HIV/AIDS in their countries. Taken together, the submissions provide the foundation for the UN Secretary-General's report to the General Assembly on the global HIV/AIDS epidemic. Each country progress report contains a section on the status of the epidemic in that country for the two-year period, with figures on topics such as the number of HIV tests that have been received, the number of new cases reported, and the number of AIDS-related deaths.
