The Violence Against Children Study (VACS) is a global effort to collect data on violence against children. The study monitors the prevalence of domestic violence, sexual violence, emotional violence, and exploitation. VACS aims to inform prevention efforts and policy regarding child safety, monitor the utilization of health services, and estimate prevalence of violence agaisnt children.
Data were collected for the 2014 Nigeria VACS through a household survey. The study interviewed 1,766 females and 2,437 males between the ages of 13 to 24 years. The study split the sample into two age groups: participants 18 to 24 years and participants 13 to 17. The older group was canvassed for experiences of violent acts prior to age 18. The younger group was asked to recount experiences that had occurred in the 12 months preceding the survey.
