Summary

This is the second survey on psychotropic drug use in Brazil. The first was carried out in 2001. The purpose of this round of the survey was to create estimates on people living with drug and alcohol dependency, to investigate attitudes towards using and trafficking drugs, and to obtain data on the number of people in treatment for drug or alcohol use disorders. The data were collected through in-person interviews.

The questionnaire was a translated and adapted version of the the instrument the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration uses in the U.S. National Household Survey on Drug Use and Health.

The survey was carried out in 108 cities with populations over 200,000. The sample size for the survey was 7,939 interviews with individuals ages 12-65 years.
