Summary
The 2011 Census of Belgium was conducted through the use of pre-existing information from administrative databases, and not through a survey. It was the first census of its kind in Belgium, with testing of the new methodology having been conducted in 2006 through a microcensus. The census reference day was January 1st, and data were used on the traditional demographic and socioeconomic topics. The total population of Belgium in 2011 was calculated at 11,000,638.
