Summary
The General Household Survey (GHS) is a multi-purpose continuous survey carried out since 1971 to collect basic information on people living in private households in the United Kingdom. In 2005, the GHS adopted a longitudinal design, but the 2006 dataset is cross-sectional, as it only contains data from 2006.
Two questionnaires were used for the survey: one for the household and one for the individual, an adult age 16 or older. Out of a sample of 13,316 households, a total of 9,731 households and 22,924 individuals were successfully interviewed.
The survey covered household characteristics, housing conditions and assets, employment, health and use of health services, smoking and drinking, marriage, cohabitation, and fertility.
