Summary

The Tobacco Use Supplement to the Current Population Survey is sponsored by the National Cancer Institute and CDC, and administered by the U.S. Census Bureau. It collects information on a nationally representative sample of eligible household members, on use of tobacco products, cessation, as well as tobacco-related health behaviors and policies. The Survey has been included with the monthly CPS, every 3-4 years, since 1992, as an addition such as the supplements on education and income. Roughly 64% of the sample complete the survey via telephone, and the rest in person, with the majority of the sample of 240,000 individuals being self-respondents. The 1993 TUS sample was of eligible household members ages 15 and older.
