Summary

The Health Survey for England (HSE) 2012 was the twenty-second in the series of annual surveys conducted in private households since 1994. The primary focus of the 2012 survey was physical activity for both children and adults.

The questionnaire included modules on general health, alcohol consumption, smoking, and disability. The HSE 2012 included new modules covering average weekly alcohol consumption, gambling, wellbeing, and sexual health. The survey also provided the following objective measures of health: blood pressure, anthropometric measurements, and analysis of saliva, urine, and blood samples.

A total of 8,291 adults and 2,043 children were successfully interviewed, while nurse visits were conducted among 5,470 adults and 1,203 children.
