The National Health Interview Survey (NHIS), a cross-sectional household interview survey that is fielded continuously throughout the year, is a major source of information on the health of the population of the United States.
The 2013 NHIS includes seven questionnaires: Household, Family, Family Disability, Adult, Child, Cover, and Functioning and Disability. In addition to the core NHIS questions, the 2013 survey contains enhanced questions on health care access and utilization, food security, asthma, epilepsy, cancer screening, hepatitis B and C screening, heart disease and stroke prevention, immunization, mental health, disability, and other topics. Data were collected for 41,335 households with 104,520 persons in 42,321 families. Sample children totaled 12,860, and sample adults totaled 34,557.
