Summary
The NLSY97 was initiated in 1997 as a longitudinal study of 8,984 men and women aged 12-17 (born between 1980 and 1984) at the time of the first survey round in 1997. The survey is currently in its 15th round, with interviews now conducted biennially. It is composed of one cross-sectional sample and an oversample of black and/or Hispanic or Latino individuals.
Note: this survey is independent of the National Longitudinal Study of Youth 1979 (NLSY79), also conducted by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
