Summary 

Conducted over a six-month period in 2005 on behalf of India's Ministry of Women and Child Development, this National Study on Child Abuse aimed to assess the magnitude and forms of child abuse in the country, to investigate the factors leading to abuse, and to recommend interventions for its prevention. Forms of abuse studied include physical, sexual, and emotional abuse, and girl child neglect. For the survey, 13 states were covered, and data from 17,220 respondents (children 5-18, young adults 18-24, and stakeholders such as government-position holders) was collected. Data collection occurred through focus group discussions and one-on-one interviews.
