Zambia Living Conditions Monitoring Survey 2002-2003
General Info
The LCMS series of surveys in Zambia were originally based on the Priority Surveys of 1991 and 1993. While the Priority Surveys were aimed at evaluating structural adjustment policies, the LCMS series focused on providing indicators of living conditions and poverty.
The 2002-2003 LCMS III was the third in the series. It was the the first LCMS to cover a sample of households over a period of 12 months, to avoid recall bias and to capture changes in welfare due to seasonal variation.
Two questionnaires were used. One for living condition data and one for household expenditures, household income, non-farm enterprises and household deaths. Expenditure data was collected using a household diary method. The poverty estimates are not comparable across all surveys in this series.
