This survey, abbreviated as NIDS, is the third in a panel survey conducted by the University of Cape Town covering South African income and wellbeing, consumption, expenditure, standard of living, dwelling characteristics, household assets, employment, migration, health, education, fertility and mortality.

In Wave 3, 32,633 individuals from 8,040 households were interviewed.
