Summary
The Rapid Assessment of Avoidable Blindness (RAAB) is a rapid survey methodology developed at the International Centre for Eye Health (ICEH). It is a population based survey of visual impairment and eye care services among people aged 50 years and over.
The Gambia Rapid Assessment of Avoidable Blindness 2007 covered the entirety of The Gambia. Data were collected through household interviews and visual examinations. Subjects with vision-impairing cataract were questioned on barriers keeping them from pursuing cataract surgery, and subjects that had undergone cataract surgery were asked about their operations. An additional module collected information on willingness to pay for cataract surgery. The sample size included 3,000 subjects.
