The first United Kingdom census which could completed online via the Internet as well as through mailed questionnaires, the 2011 census was conducted for all countries in the UK on March 27, 2011. The Office for National Statistics (ONS) is responsible for the census in England and Wales, the General Register Office for Scotland (GROS) is responsible for the census in Scotland, and the Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency (NISRA) is responsible for the census in Northern Ireland. Safeguarded microdata files containing samples of up to 5% of individuals in the census, at both the regional and local authority level, are available from the UK Data Service.
